I love colour and combine this with inspiration derived from a lifetime of enjoyment of the sights of beautiful wildlife and natural world around us. My work encompasses a broad range of textile arts. However I have specialised in fine felt for the last 12 years. I have taken numerous in person and on line courses with local and international felt makers to improve and refine my skill. Thankyou for visiting my website. About Me

My love of textiles began at an early age, inspired by my mum. I have dabbled in weaving, dyeing and machine embroidery before concentrating primarily on wet feltmaking. I have been making felt since around 2013 and have taken a wide variety of in person and on line workshops and courses, both with international and local feltmakers, to bring the quality of my felt to a high standard. I love the magic of creating useable and desirable items from a fluffy pile of sheep fleece! Sometimes I dye or ecoprint the end result. I also enjoy adding machine embroidery to my felt. I make primarily wearable items such as scarves and bags but also like to experiment with mixed media art work and vessels. Much of my inspiration comes from the natural world around us.

I am a member of the International Feltmakers Association.

I am particularly grateful for teaching by Fiona Duthie and Lena Archbold in perfecting my skills and techniques.

Our felting group's (formerly Malvern Felters) next annual exhibition at The Weavers Gallery, Ledbury, Herefordshire will be held 4-9 August 2025. We are a group of textile artists meeting monthly for mutual encouragement and learning. Although our primary interest is feltmaking we also enjoy many other aspects of creating with textiles. Below are photographs of my main area of display within our last group exhibition.

Worcester Open Studios and Herefordshire Art week

I had a great time participating in H.art for the first time last year. I exhibited alongside 14 other artists in the beautiful Lion Ballroom Leominster. Thankyou to everyone who came along to look, chat, make positive comments and also to buy my work. It was just fabulous to get such great encouraging feedback. So this year I am planning to return to The Lion Ballroom for h.Art 6-14 September 2025.

In addition I now have an online presence at Worcestershire Open Studios and have found a shared venue to exhibit for the Worcester Open Studios event in August. See below for more information or check out my listing on worcestershireopenstudios.org.

This year I am not planning any winter art markets at present time.

This is my first year participating in Worcester Open Studios. Further information can be found on the Worcester Open Studios website. I will be sharing a space with two artists - Heather Farmer (@artworkbyHeather) a painter of landscapes and florals and her husband Steve (@castlesreimagined) who paints Castles. I will be there every day that we are open which is 16,17,22,23,24,and 25th August 2025 10.30-4.30 at 11 Glendower Way, Great Witley, Worcestershire WR66JD which can be found at what 3 words : swooned.reinstate.lamps

As I will be outside for this event I hope to be demonstrating felting - either wet or needle felting whilst I am there. Do come along and say hello! There are other artists locally too and an excellent tea room just down the road. Check out my profile on WOS website.

My second year participating in H.Art (Herefordshire Art week). 6-14 September 10am-5pm at The Lion Ballroom Leominster. A gorgeous venue, I will again be exhibiting alongside around 14 other artists.

Last year for the first time our felting group held a late autumn exhibition/sale at the Weavers Gallery, Ledbury. This was an opportunity to purchase those special handmade unique, artisan gifts for wearable art and the home. I hope you enjoyed looking round and came to support us. Thankyou!

I haven’t posted for a while as we have been away enjoying some sunshine! However here is my first art scarf after getting home inspired by the sea and life jackets! It has a layer of Margilan silk on the surface of the felt which I dyed first. This enables lots of yarns and nepps to be trapped underneath. It also gives a beautiful sheen to the surface of the felt. This one has lots of “felt lace” too. There are several ways to make felt lace - here I left gaps in the layout of the fine wool layer (following my design diagram) and then cut away the silk after felting. This means the silk then heals the edges really neatly which I like 🤣. It looks good with my denim jacket again! Last day of #21daysinmyartworld is “Big Dream”. Tricky one…. I would like to continue to make high quality beautiful felt. There’s always new aspects to learn with felting which keeps it interesting and exciting. I would like to continue with local open studios and exhibitions but also get my work into more local galleries. It’s important to me to not lose sight of why I make felt - I have found I NEED to make/create to stay well. So making for me is the priority. Day 19 of #21daysinmyartworld “Celebrate”. This for me has proved the most challenging of the prompts thus far. The start of the year has been very difficult with the sudden loss of a close friend. So it feels like small steps at the moment. I celebrate my studio space. I celebrate being well enough to create felt. I recognise that may not always be the case but it feels important to enjoy it while I can. I celebrate the start of spring here in the uk with the early snowdrops pushing up into the grey January day. Here is my next art scarf. Day 17 of #21daysinmyartworld is “largest painting” well largest project would be a better description. This waistcoat I made in a @fiona.duthie online garment workshop . As you can see the resist (with godets) is massive! Most garments shrink around 35% when fully felted so you have to start big! #wetfelting #numofelting #wetfeltedgarments #supportlocalartists

Day 15 of #21daysinmyartworld the prompt is “naming your paintings”. I’ve decided to make a few more complicated scarves/wraps and label them as Art Scarves. There is as much if not more work and multiple techniques that goes into the creation of such a scarf. Probably more than in a felt painting. So I’ve decided to name each one. Day 14 of #21daysinmyartworld is SOLD! 2024 was my most successful year to date in terms of sales. Participating in @herefordshireartweek for the first time was a big new venture for me. It was exciting to sell my work and get positive feedback. I hope to participate again in September this year - again @the_lion_ballroom Leominster. So do pop in and see me if you are near enough. This experience also gave me an opportunity to advertise my exhibitions and markets locally later in the year. I have to say I don’t make with the sole purpose of selling - I try to make what I feel like making and then hope it will sell! I can’t say I always get that balance right but that’s the aim. So - thankyou if you have bought my work. It means a huge amount that people like what I make enough to buy it. Todays prompt for #21daysinmyartworld is “process insight”. I use nunofelting a lot in my work. Nuno felting is the process of attaching fabric to the fibre (usually wool). Any loose weaved fabric will work but silk is particularly effective. It’s important that the structure of the fabric is open enough to allow the wool fibres to migrate and grab hold. A good test is if you can blow through it. Then it’s important to take your time and go slow to encourage that fibre migration before beginning the felting process. So I use cold water, olive oil soap (to stick the fabric in place) my sander, rubbing and rolling and lots of patience. Once the fibres are migrated through then when the project is felted fully the fabric will be well attached and inseparable. Here I’ve tried to skyline a photo showing the fibres migrated through the fabric. It’s then possible to stop at this point, dry the “prefelt” as I have done here. These dry prefelts can then be cut into precise shapes and attached into further felting projects with minimal loss of definition. #nunofelting #wetfelting

Day 10 of #21daysinmyartworld is “Artist selfie”. I’m very rarely in front of the camera lens being much more comfortable behind it! But here I am on holiday in France a couple of years ago. Hello 👋 my new and old followers and thankyou for following this journey with me. The astute amongst you will not the beautiful lady orchids just to the side of where I am sat on the grass.

Day 9 and day 11 of #21daysinmyartworld are “where the art happens” and “turning point” respectively. For me 2024 was a turning point in that we built a studio in the garden for my art practice. Well to be precise @cs_gardenoffices built it for me. It’s a fabulous insulated space. It means I can lay felt work out and leave it rather than having to clear it from the kitchen table. It’s been a real turning point in my art practice as well as a validation of how important that is to my mental health. Day 8 of #21daysinmyartworld the prompt is “inspiration”. Much of my inspiration is related to colour. Particularly colour in the natural world and landscape. However as a textile artist I’ve come to realise that actually a lot of my inspiration comes from FABRIC. I love visiting charity shops and finding a silk scarf or dress or blouse which can then be cut up and upcycled by being nuno felted into a beautiful new felted item. Here several dress fabrics - have been incorporated into my latest art scarf - more of which later. If I find a particularly lovely bit of fabric my mind goes into overdrive planning how it can be used! Needless to say I have a large stash of fabrics to play with but the nicest get used first! 😊 #nunofelting #wetfelting

Day 7 of #21daysinmyartworld todays prompt is colour palette. I love most colours but my absolute favourite have to be the blues and turquoises of a tropical sea. Continuing #21daysinmyartworld today’s prompt is “Current Challenge”. For me at the moment this is photographing my felt work. I feel the art work looks best in natural light and here in the UK IF the sun is out it’s quite low in the sky and not ideal for photography. For small items I’ve made a “theatre” which I can light with an angle poise and daylight bulb. That’s fine. Larger makes like scarves look best on a mannequin and so then it’s having a suitable place to stand it and sufficient lighting to look good. I don’t really want to buy lots of photographic lighting so any suggestions welcome….. This reversible lattice nuno scarf in spring greens was my last make of 2024. Took a few photos in the winter sun against the house wall. Day 4 is “Art book” but tbh although I do have sketching books for sketching and painting I don’t tend to keep a plan of felting projects. New projects and sketches do literally tend to be on a scrap of paper or back of an envelope! If there’s useful information on sizing and shrinkage rates then I do try to be organised and save these in a notebook but I also try not to beat myself up if I don’t (although it can be frustrating if I need that information again!)
Day 5 prompt is “favourite tool”. This has to be my new (Christmas present) Makita finishing sander. Many non felters maybe surprised to learn that I use a sander in my felting. But I do. A lot. For years I’ve used our old DIY sander which was very noisy and heavy. Whilst the sanding plate on the new one is not quite as big it’s so unbelievably QUIET! And variable speed means I can slow it right down. It’s invaluable for speeding up the attachment of the wool to fabric or speciality fibre such as viscose. #noveluseofsander #wetfelting #nunofelting

Day 3 of #21daysinmyartworld is Current WIP. I usually have about 5 things on the go at once. So here is the one I need to get on with. If it turns out good enough it will be my entry into this years #internationalfeltmakersassociation annual exhibition. The plan is to make a mixed media piece for which I need a felt picture in the background. I’ve been planning this for ages (procrastinating would be a better word perhaps?). Always a fear of failure. So anyway I have made a rough sketch which needs firming up to give me some shapes. And I got out a pile of prefelts (home made and commercial) that might be useful. Playing catch-up on Day 2 prompt from #21daysinmyartworld. The prompt is Lesson Learned. During the pandemic I took an online course to ecoprint on my felt. I enjoyed it a lot but then found the lack of control of the printed outcome very frustrating especially after all that time taken to make the felt in the first place. Some results were good but there were many that I was disappointed with. So I decided this is a technique that’s not for me. I still ecoprint on paper from time to time but not felt. Day 1 Favourite painting. As my medium is mostly felt rather than paint - here is one of my favourite makes. Life size wet felted wrens! I love wrens - such busy birds with a beautiful song for such a tiny bird. I made a few of these in an attempt to capture their cocky presence. Even made some kits to sell….

We opened again today at the Weavers Gallery Ledbury. A beautiful sunny day and much needed after Storm Bert left so much wet! These three of my pieces went off to new homes today. Thankyou!
